HEALTH & SAFETY UPDATE COURSE

We all need to exercise a Duty of Care to everyone who may be affected by our work.  This one-day course, which will be held on Friday 18 September 2009 in Cardiff (Regus House, Cardiff Bay, CF10 4RU), gives an overview of the implications for companies, local authorities and individuals of the relevant current and expected health & safety legislation and guidance (both UK and European). Course Content:

  • Corporate and individual responsibility and accountability
  • Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide
  • Individual gross negligence manslaughter
  • Health & Safety at Work Act
  • Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations
  • Risk Assessments
  • Roles of the Health & Safety Executive, Police and other agencies
  • Road Death Investigation Manual

Questions to be addressed:

  • Is ignorance of the law a defence?
  • What are your personal liabilities?
  • What is a Duty of Care?
  • Could you be sent to prison?
  • What can/should you insure against?
  • Does it matter if you are Registered?
  • What action should you take to protect your employer and yourself?

The Speaker:

Gareth Jones specialises in Personal  Injury, typically in negligence and fatality cases.  He is an acknowledged expert in Health & Safety, especially in the Duty of Care and associated issues, and has dealt with numerous litigation cases involving this specialist area of work.  He will use case studies relating to the education, engineering, medical and social services professions as part of his teaching material.  He is a regular presenter for the Law Society, delivering many interesting and controversial topics in Law.

The Cost/Grants Available:

  • Places on the course cost £290 + VAT including refreshments and course materials.  However, you may be eligible for a grant to cover the cost of the course -
    • If you live and work in Wales and have been made redundant within the last six months or the risk of redundancy is looming.
    • If you work in Wales but live elsewhere and are threatened with redundancy.
    • If you are an employer and your staff are facing redundancy you can help to retrain your workforce to ensure a better future for them and your business.
