WHAT MOVES YOU? - HARROGATE CONFERENCE - 28 JANUARY 2010

The aim of this conference was to give an insight into how, across our profession, certain challenging aspects of transportation activity are being managed.  Transportation has many facets and it is our belief that technical advancements and new processes developed for one mode have the potential to be applied with advantage to other modes.  Elaine Holt, Chairman of East Coast and Chief Executive of Directly Operated Railways presented the challenges involved with nationalising the East Coast Mainline, Keith McCabe and John Watson (Atkins) showed us The Road from Copenhagen and Simon Coulthard (Network Rail) and Barry Graham (Northern Rail) gave their perspective on Tram-Train.

Over 50 delegates attended the conference held at the Majestic Hotel in Harrogate.  Here are some of the comments we received:

  • Great conference, also superb value for money which is why I come.
  • The best organised conference in the region, well done
  • Excellent range of topics and speakers and papers
  • Well done - looking forward to next year already!
  • The networking has been very useful
  • Good conference in terms of organisation and the content under discussion.  Has provided  me with a challenge to give even more thought to what I do in my professional day to day activities
